Congratulations. Once again, at an early stage, our team was eliminated from the European competition. It never happened – and here it is again. Although Dynamo were eliminated in the next round from the Spanish Granada, there would be no significant difference for Russia’s rating. Yes, it would sound clearer: the sixth RPL team did not pass the fifth team. Examples are a normal thing. Now Dynamo is looking for a replacement for the head coach, but initially there were no serious hopes for Dynamo in the Europa League. Getting into the LE group seemed obviously unlikely (after Granada, one more seeded opponent would have to be passed)
As in previous years, our main competitor is Portugal. It is important to catch up with her in order to return an additional ticket to European cups (moreover, a ticket to the Champions League group). And because the sixth line allows the champion to be in the first basket in the draw of the Champions League group.
Portugal’s Rio Ave have gone further this week, beating Borac in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now Riu Ave will meet with Besiktas. The Turkish club has just announced that the team has seven players and five employees infected with the coronavirus. This makes the passage of Rio Ave much more likely (less than a week before the match in Istanbul). “Sporting” at the same stage will meet with the Scottish “Aberdeen”. If successful, to get into the LE group, the Portuguese clubs will have to beat one more rival.
Today, the gap between Portugal and Russia is 4.684. Theoretically, such a handicap is won back in one season (if Russia gives out an excellent season, and Portugal fails). Although so far the trend is rather the opposite. Now the most important thing is getting Rostov into the LE group. The rest of the Russian clubs have already guaranteed themselves the group stage: Zenit and Loko – in the Champions League, CSKA – in the Europa League, and Krasnodar – either there or there, but definitely in the group. This Thursday “Rostov” will meet with the Israeli “Maccabi”. The winner will be determined after one match in Rostov-on-Don. If Karpin’s team wins, they will have to go through one more opponent to get into the LE group. And the next opponent will be more serious, because Rostov will no longer be seeded. That is, it can even get to Tottenham. Apparently, Rostov will play with the winner of one of these pairs (draw today at 15:00):
Shkendia (7,250) – Tottenham (85,000)
Standard (20,500) – Vojvodina (5,100)
Galatasaray – Hajduk (7,500)
APOEL ( 27,50) – Zrinski (6,250)
And now about the Champions League. Thanks to Sergei Rebrov’s Ferencváros, who knocked out Celtic (34,000) and Dynamo Zagreb (33,500). Lokomotiv now has excellent chances of getting into the third basket in the Champions League draw. A year ago, Lokomotiv got into the fourth basket, receiving Juventus, Atlético and Bayer. Although two years ago Lokomotiv was not helped much by being in the first basket.
To get into the third basket, Lokomotiv needs at least one with a lower rating from these pairs:
Krasnodar (33,500) – PAOK (21,000)
Maccabi (16,500) – Salzburg (53,500)
Olympiacos (43,000) – Omonia (5,350)
If teams with higher ratings advance to the Champions League group, then the baskets before the draw will look like this (yes, Barcelona will in the second basket anyway):
We have identified teams that have not yet guaranteed themselves participation in the Champions League group. From the photo it may seem that the departure of Dynamo Kiev would also help Lokomotiv, but this is not so. The Ukrainian rival Gent has a rating of 39,500, which is higher than that of Loko.
Full table of UEFA coefficients can be found here. It is curious that Northern Ireland has the highest rating of the season from European countries at 2.833.
